My mother Peggy Jean was fond of saying more nerve than a brass ass monkey. She was so colorful. Peggy Jean was a whipper snapper. Pictured is an actual brass monkey, sans the ass. A brass money was a brass plate upon which cannon balls were stacked. So its a nautical thing. I love nautical stuff. And the original and less polite saying was actually more balls than a brass monkey. Thirty iron cannon balls could be stacked on a brass monkey. No one knows why it was called a monkey. Thats a lot of balls though. I love you Mom!
