My mother died this morning just after 6 a.m. The obituary is below for those who would like to know about her. I loved her dearly. Clarice Scarborough McKenzie died Tuesday, September 24, in Oxford. She was 90. Mrs. McKenzie was born August 21, 1923, in Decatur, Mississippi. She graduated as valedictorian of Rose Hill High School and received an Associate Degree from East Central Community College. Upon the outbreak of World War II, Mrs. McKenzie went to Washington, D.C., to join the civilian staff of the War Production Board. For 25 years, Mrs. McKenzie was in partnership with her husband in Broad Avenue Pharmacy, Inc., in Gulfport. She was a former officer in the Parent Teacher Association of Gulfport High School. She was active in Scottish cultural activities, serving as an officer and life member of the Clan MacKenzie Society in the Americas. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport. After Hurricane Katrina, she moved to Oxford to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. McKenzie was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph David McKenzie, and her parents, Melvin Green Scarborough and Cleo Roebuck Scarborough. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy McKenzie Dupont, and her son-in-law, Joseph Cyrille Dupont III of Oxford. She leaves two cousins and six nieces and nephews. Visitation for Mrs. McKenzie will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 28 at Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home in Hattiesburg. Internment will follow at the Myers-McKenzie cemetery in Forrest County.
