My mother has always been a giver. She always allowed people in - TopicsExpress

My mother has always been a giver. She always allowed people in need to stay in her home. She took in other peoples children, fed and clothed them. Sometimes raised them for years as her own until the parent was back on their feet. She never asked for anything in return. She cleaned her own house, cooked all our meals, did all the laundry. all while working with my Dad and brother at the family business, and raising three of her own children on a modest income. Now mom has dementia. I went to see her the other day. She is in a memory care facility/ assisted living home. She is very happy there. She explained to me how my dad purchased this huge house for her before he died. How he hired this whole staff to see to her every need. She explained that she has gardeners, cooks, cleaning ladies, and even someone to wake her in the morning and take her to breakfast. She says it is the perfect home because all of her friends in need are able to live there with her. She says she takes care of them all, and loves having such a big house and so much help so she can take care of all her friends. When I arrive, I watch her from a distance as she holds the hands of an older woman who is crying because she cant find her husband. I watch her lead another person to the bathroom. On a different visit I arrived as she was warming the hands of a friend, and helping to feed another. She chats all day with the other patients and staff. I would like to thank God for making my mothers last years mean as much as the rest of her life. She is starting to forget who we are now, but she hasnt forgotten who she is.
