My mother, my best friend, passed away this past July after having ALS for only 20 months. It did take the doctors about a year to diagnose her, but once we knew, we only had 20 precious months with her. She had the bulbar symptoms, and ended up on a Bi-pap 24 hours a day by the end. She was only 67 when she died. It was the most awful experience for myself, my sisters, her husband and the rest of her family. Her parents, both in their 90s had to bury their child. ALS is a death sentence, and makes us all completely helpless. We took care of her and she died at home with all of us around her, like she wanted. My heart still aches every minute of every day. I miss her so much...
