My mother tied my dog up the other day by wrapping our plastic-coated wire lead (for outside) around his neck, and clipping it to the wire itself. It was fashioned like a slip knot. My dog is a beagle-lab mix who has a hell-of-a nose and loves to bolt after rabbits and squirrels, regardless if he is attached to a leash or not. I asked my mother nicely not to tie him up like that again, and she took incredible offense to this. There seems to be little solid data on the danger of this type of practice, but Im equating it to a choke collar being placed on an unsupervised dog who maxes his leash out at full speed on a regular basis. Does anyone have access to any good articles on the danger of doing something like this so I can show my mother why I felt a need to correct her behavior?
