My mother was a wonderful, funny lady and I miss the way she laughed. She and my dad were very much in love and had a great relationship, until death do we part they were romantic, very old fashioned. My mother was also troubled and drank too much...this is the Mom I dont miss...as a child I thought it was something that I caused, if I could only be better, Mom wouldnt drink. Then I grew up and realized that she was hurting because she felt unloved in her own family. My mom was a child of Polish and Ukrainian immigrants, who came through Ellis Island. They were stoic people and never showed emotion or love. That had to be hard for her. My mom Stella was a talented artist too...a wonderful painter, she would have loved to go to art school, but a woman wasnt allowed in those days, at least not her...so she married, had children and tried to be happy, but I felt she never really was fulfilled. I know she loved me and my brother and sister....I know she did the best she could...I have gotten my gift of loving life and people from her...regardless of her being brought up in a non emotive family, she was the life of the party, everyones friend, the outgoing, crazy lady, who made everyone feel good! Before she died, she said she was sorry, that she wished she didnt put us through those times when she drank..life is about forgiving, maybe not forgetting, but trying to understand why people do what they do, and learn and grow from it. I love you Mom, and I know youre with Dad and Mark and youre up there somewhere painting a masterpiece. Happy Mothers Day Stella.
