My mother was one of the sweetest, most loving & caring people Ive - TopicsExpress

My mother was one of the sweetest, most loving & caring people Ive ever known. She loved her family more than anything & did everything in her power to make us feel that love. She loved to cook/bake & she was great at it. She made every holiday an awesome experience, going out of her way to make that holiday the focus of that time of year with over the top decorations & delicious goodies to go along with the decor. Our birthdays were always a spectacular event. She always made us feel our happiness was the only thing that mattered those days,, from the moment we opened our eyes(she would decorate our bedroom with streamers the the night before while we were sleeping) until she ticked us into bed. She was unbelievable with a sewing machine. She made countless Halloween costumes, dress up clothes, baby doll clothes, blankets, curtains, matching dresses for me & my friends, & I remember one date night, she came in my room & asked me to help her make a dress for her date with my dad. We went into her sewing room. I watched her in amazement as she folded, snipped, tucked & sewed this beautiful piece of lifeless fabric into a fabulous cocktail dress in 10 minutes without a pattern. Her imagination was incredible. She loved nature. Whether she was planting herbs in her garden, helping us build a sandcastle on a beach, or hiking through the woods, I think outside was her favorite place to be. She loved music, so much so that she turned a spare room in our house into a music room, she played the piano beautifully & I will never forget that wonderful sound. She loved to go to concerts, I cant even count all of the awesome, classic bands & artists that Ive seen live, everyone from Jimmy Buffet to Fleetwood Mac. There was ALWAYS music playing. She was cultured, she loved taking us to have new experiences, going to museums in different cities across the country, dinner & a Broadway show at LaComedia, listening to the philharmonic orchestra, classic movies in the summertime at the Victoria Theatre, seeing the Nutcracker & The Phantom of the opera. She was wonderful with kids, always genuine & compassionate. She taught me a trick about dealing with young children during a fit, she told me You first need to get down eye level with them & whisper, that way they must be quiet to hear you. Then validate their feelings about the situation & help THEM find a better alternative to express those feelings. She was truly one of a kind. She was at the grocery store one day to get a few things & there was a woman in front of her who had a few small children & a cart full of groceries, my mother saw the woman swipe her card & get declined. The woman was crying & telling the employee that she doesnt know why that was happening & before the woman had to disappoint her children, my mother swiped her card & paid for that strangers groceries. That is the kind of woman my mother was. She put together small baskets of flowers on May Day(May 1st) & leave them on random doorsteps, knock on the door & run. She would do whatever she could just for a smile. Tell your loved ones just how much they mean to you before you dont get the chance. Today is her birthday. She would have been 54 years old. This day is painful for me every single year but I take comfort knowing just how many lives she touched during her life. If you were one of the fortunate ones to know the love my mother gave, I ask you to celebrate her life today by going out of your way to do something nice for someone you dont know, because that is what she would have done. I love you Mom. You were an amazing mother & woman. It breaks my heart to know that AJ will never meet you but I hope he can know a piece of you through me. Happy birthday Mom
