My name is David Mitnick and I am running for School Board in the Sleepy Hole Borough. I believe I am most qualified to represent the parents, teachers and taxpayers because of my passion for student success, experience in public education, commitment and dedication to community service, with the availability to serve full-time. Passion – My siblings and I attended public schools, where we received a quality education and where I was inspired by my teachers to become an educator. Experience - I have worked for 36 years in public schools in three area cities, with the last 7 years spent in the Suffolk Public School District as a teacher, school counselor, building administrator and program administrator. Dedication to Service - I strongly believe in public service, serving in the U.S. Army for 3 years where I developed a belief in serving others. Since retirement from Suffolk Public Schools in 2010, I volunteer for three organizations committed to improving the quality of life for others. Available Time - As a retiree, I have the available and necessary time to commit to the business of the School Board, to represent the Sleepy Hole Borough on matters that require timely attention. I promise to be involved, aware and available. My Personal Commitment is to work diligently on behalf of students, parents and taxpayers to: • Ensure that every student in Suffolk Public Schools is afforded a quality education; • Ensure that qualified, experienced, and professional educators are retained; • Ensure that teachers are provided a competitive compensation package; • Explore areas where services can be shared with the City of Suffolk to cut cost and provide additional funds for instructional personnel compensation; • Provide a system that supports new teachers as they mature into professional educators; • Work with School Administrative Office personnel to make sure they are providing assistance and support necessary so that every school can be fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Education; • Work collaboratively with the other School Board members to improve the quality of Suffolk Public Schools; and • Forge partnerships and collaborative engagement between the School Board and City Council aimed at increased cooperation and open channels of communication between both organizations. I have this information In a colorful flyer if anyone would like it to circulate
