My name is Demi. I am going to share my story and hope two things - TopicsExpress

My name is Demi. I am going to share my story and hope two things will come from it. 1) I find a home who will love and cherish me forever 2) I stop just ONE person who may be considering putting their dog on Craigs list. Okay, here we go...... I dont remember the very beginning of my life, but I know I was with one person from the time I was little until about 2 months ago. My owner was a nice single lady, very young and busy. She worked the night shift and slept during the day. I was an only dog and spent most of my time completely alone in the house. I was not around a lot of people or other dogs. I didnt have a fenced yard and only went on walks when time allowed. The lady decided that I deserved better and put me on Craigs list. I went to a family with 3 young children who apparently were not accustomed to a dachshund, much less one who had lived her entire life alone! This was NOT a good fit for me. I was a basket case, a nervous wreck and felt my life had been turned upside down. I was falling apart on the inside. I started having difficulties coping and my hair started to thin. I was never aggressive, so please dont think that about me. Im a very sweet dachshund. Anyway, back on Craigs list I went. Thank God a dog lover saw my free to a good home ad and contacted Doxie Tales. The next thing I know, Im being moved from one car to another in a parking lot. I road a log way with a kind lady from Doxie Tales promising me everything was going to be just fine! Julia Bechard and Judy Delbene have been taking great care of me for Doxie Tales. I was exhibiting some odd behavior, so they took me to the Dr. to make sure I was okay. I got LOTS of blood work done. Everything physically is perfect with me. But I do strange things sometimes. For example, I will start chasing my tail...fast! Like I am going to attack it, but thank goodness it runs faster than me. I do a few other weird things too. But, Im not crazy, I promise Im not. Ive just been through a very difficult time. The good news is that I can and will get better! Im already improving a lot just by feeling happy. I do best in calm environments. I am learning what kindness and love is all about. Guess what my favorite thing to do now is... be held on my back like a little baby. I fall into a deep peaceful sleep, and FAST! It feels so good to be able to trust and relax. I would like an owner who will be patient with me because all this warm and fuzzy stuff is new to me (and I like it!) I am going to start on a low dose anti-depressant/anxiety medication to see if that will help me. (Its not expensive....only $4 a month at Walmart!) And, I may not need to stay on it. Heck, we are not even sure it will help. Hey, its worth a try to help me learn to feel calm and not to get anxious over some silly things like I do now. I am staying a couple of weeks with Judy Delbene. She is awesome and I really like her husband, Tim. He lets me sit on his lap every night! Demi is being fostered in N Central Florida. If you are interested in adopting her, please read the ABOUT section on the Doxie Tales HOME page for adoption information and requirements. She is up to date on vaccines, heart worm negative, spayed and getting happier by the day! She just needs someone who will continue to work with her, but most importantly, love her FOREVER! Please send Doxie Tales a private message if you are interested in adopting Demi. Love, Ginger from Doxie Tales
