My name is Faamalosi. I was born and raised in Samoa and I am one of the children who have lived in the care of SVSG for the longest time to date. My story is a sad one, but that is my past, I am now growing from strength to strength. I am a survivor. My birth parents could not care for me when I was born, they didnt want me. A kind family took me in and did their best for me until I became too difficult to manage. I was very young and very sick. I had minimal movement and when I was found I was deteriorating to nothing. I am very fortunate that a palagi lady came across my sick body in an open fale that was used for cooking in an outback village. I had my spot on the floor on a mat and I was left there to fend for myself. The story goes that I was starving to death, my carers had given up on me because they no longer knew what to do , it just so happens that the palagi lady was a visitor to the village and when she saw me her heart broke, she called Lina immediately sobbing and asking for her to help me. Thats all history now. I was taken into the care of SVSG, and I was nursed back to health. Over time I started to get strong, I had carers and in time I was to receive my own wheelchair. I attend therapy and I can now ,move forward from my chair, I can lift my arms and I can make movements with my fingers and hands. I smile a lot and Im quite cheeky. My smiling eyes light up a room. It seems like I can understand what people are saying to me but I cant respond, Im non verbal but I am making noises from my mouth. I am cared for by a matron and some of the older girls at the shelter. I do require full time assistance in all day to day activities. Lina isnt sure how old I am because we dont know who my birth parents are or where I am from, this means I dont have a date of birth or know where in Samoa my family comes from. Im fortunate to be receiving physical therapy and some say that I have begun to show promising development, which is so good. I am another success story thanks to Lina who never gave up on me. I am alive and I am a survivor. *Faamalosi, like some of our other children would not be alive today if it were not for Lina Chang and the staff at SVSG. Had Lina not gone to save this young life then he would not be here today, he would have starved to death. If SVSG didnt exist, and if the shelters were not around then there would not be anywhere for this young child and others like him to seek refuge in. Faamalosi will continue to need ongoing therapy and care, but we are happy to say that he is showing signs of improvement thanks to the therapy he receives and the love and care he is given by our volunteers and visitors. If you find it in your heart to want to assist Faamalosi by sponsoring him or by looking after some of his needs, please let us know. Together, we can make a difference in this young boys life and the lives of all the children in care of SVSG. victimsupport.ws #SVSGSAMOA #MAKINGADIFFERENCE #BETHECHANGE
