My name is Jamie (Gavin) Forkner and I am running for Del Norte County School Board. As an involved parent with children currently in the school district and a lifelong resident of this County, I feel confident that your vote for me will ensure the following: 1. Clean & Safe learning environment(s): My top priority is for every student to receive a quality public education in a safe and clean environment. Parents, teachers, taxpayers and school district employees must all be given the opportunity to voice concerns or complaints to school board members without fear of reprisal and with the understanding and assurance that every concern or complaint will be given consideration, and when warranted – investigated and appropriate action taken. My goal is for all schools to become a place of pride for students, parents, teachers and staff by providing a clean and safe learning environment. 2. Financial stability: While the local and state economy continues to rebound, we must be persistent in seeking other funding opportunities for our student’s education. With my extensive financial background, I will be an asset to the district bringing integrity, critical analysis, common sense and the ability to communicate effectively at a time when state and federal budgetary problems demand tough decisions. These continue to be financially challenging times and the school district must live within a sound budget, while continuously striving for academic excellence. 3. Honesty & Transparency: There are always going to be tough decisions that have to be made and the public needs to be informed why the school board reached each decision. An honest approach and creating awareness in situations involving school district decisions is imperative for students, parents, district employees and taxpayers to create a cohesive partnership. The community needs to be made aware of issues facing the school district and items on the agenda so they can provide input and voice their opinions and suggestions, prior to final decisions. I will always base my decisions about our children’s future on the need and merits of each issue. I will never base any decision on what is politically safe. There is NO justification, whatsoever, for politics when making decisions about our children’s education. Your vote for me will restore the confidence of the taxpayers and district employees by providing a fair, honest, and straightforward voice in the educational decision making process.
