My name is Katie and I just started fostering for CBR. Sage was my second foster and just went to a wonderful family. I am posting about my beagle, Rica, who was my first foster and a fail (isnt there a better term for that?) She is still suffering from her short time in a federally funded lab. I am asking for help with her, so I can keep on fostering other beagles. This is a long post and I hope its okay to leave this up for a day or so, so I can connect with some of you very experienced beagle people and get some ideas on house training her. Rica first came to the Kindness Ranch about a year ago, and was adopted out twice, but both times she was returned. The first family smothered her, and she did not like the dad in the other family. She often does not like men, and I am guessing they remind her of the researchers she encountered. She came to me 9 months and 12 days ago and I knew she had found her home. We have another laboratory beagle we adopted after she spent 9 years in a lab, who is know 11, and a rescue from Hurricane Katrina. Rica is generally scared of loud and busy environments, so I do not take her out much, except into the woods to hike. I started her in obedience training on Monday and after the initial fear of the environment, she did so well. I am so proud of her! She is a wonderful girl, so sweet and loving, but I cannot get her potty trained, and with all the rain weve had up here, she has stopped going outside all together. I have tried crating her at night, which helps, but she has stopped going outside in the morning and instead waits until my back is turned and goes inside. She is in the crate right now as I type, and I will take her outside on a leash in a minute to see if shell go elsewhere, on gravel, away from the yard, somewhere. Sorry for the long post, but I am ready for another CBR foster and want to work on this so she can be the best big sister she can be. Thank you.
