My name is Kelly Phillips Erb. I am no longer Kelly Phillips and - TopicsExpress

My name is Kelly Phillips Erb. I am no longer Kelly Phillips and Mrs. Erb is my mother-in-law. My name is actually my legal name. Phillips is not just my maiden name or used as a middle name. And while I get that using a double last name may be difficult in social circles - I dont mind being called Kelly Erb, for example, by friends or the teachers at school - I am sick of my name being shortened in business. I cant access my accounts for health insurance or other programs because the folks entering into the computer use discretion as to what to call me. Maybe, Im Erb today or Phillips or Phillips-Erb. Or, as Marriott and USAir like to call me, Phillipserb. When Ive called in to clarify that its Phillips Erb, Ive been told over the phone that our system says thats not your name - Blue Cross told me that just last week and wouldnt talk to me about my account until I confirmed some additional personal information. If you can accommodate the creative spelling of other names, you ought to be able to figure mine. If youre going to be okay with Brittaennii or Daeneez (thats Denise), then you ought to be able to figure out Phillips Erb. And if your computer program allows for a ñ or a ü, then you can figure out a space. Its even more annoying when its not the computer as an excuse but just an actual choice made by the person entering the data. Some companies, as Barnes and Noble has decided to do, just put me in the system both ways so that my actual member account never works. I was told by such a company the other day who was confused by my name to just pick one. I refuse to believe that, in 2014, two names - which is quite common these days - is too confusing for your company to process. /end of rant
