My name is Simoneh de Bruin-Fortuin and I am a full-time journalist with Independent News and Media South Africa’s community newspaper division. I am also a BTech Journalism student at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology doing research into the future of community newspapers. My research topic is: Are free sheets, also known as knock and drops, the future of newspapers in the digital age? With the print media industry evolving and increasingly migrating to digital platforms, do free sheets still have value as a news product – finding a workable business model for free sheets, particularly Cape Community Newspapers, in the Cape Peninsula.
