My new mare has an injured leg. I was away for 3 days and discovered it when I got home. She has a small (Size of a toonie) bulging, fleshy, swelling (Hairless) directly above the coronet band on the front (Center) of her left front. My vet tried to make it out today but didn’t – I believe he was called to an emergency. He’s going away for a few days starting tomorrow AM. :( She’s limping badly and very tender but has no swelling in the rest of her leg and did not react to the ‘break test’ where I felt down her entire leg, softly and then firmly for any hot spots or soreness. When I gently touched the injury she flinched. It’s very soft, definitely not bone. I’ve been very lucky with my horses to date (Not so much on this one. Lol) and have never seen a lot of common injuries. What does it sound like to you? I have all kinds of horrible things running through my mind that I’ve never seen in person... :( I will post a photo tomorrow, but also call the other local vet to see if she can come out and have a look. If she makes it out (I’m sure they are REALLY busy after the long weekend) I’ll check out the ulcer theory as well (Same mare, sigh) and hopefully get some meds for her. *Don’t tell me to call a vet – if you do you will make it very clear you haven’t read the post.
