My newest blog post: I have a friend named Robbie, who is a wonderful drummer and has been for over twenty years of his life. He said it just came naturally to him, and required no real thought or awareness on his part. He just felt the music and banged away to the rhythm of the music and somehow, it just worked. Over the years, traveling with several bands, he got better and better at drumming, and yet he never recalled a time where he had to really focus or work on it. It’s just what he did. Then he went to India where he experienced masterful Indian musicians playing an ancient and moving set of drums called the tabla, and it nearly brought him to tears. He was mesmerized and taken into a deep, hypnotic, trance-like state as he listened, unlike any other musical experience he had heard before, either playing or listening.
