My newsfeed is bombarded with posts of anger and anguish in relation to Cindy Villena’s tragic death. Most of the posts are evoking the restoration of Death Penalty. I, too thought of it. Upon hearing the news, my nerves shook and my teeth gnashed with anger. How much more with her family and close friends? Death Penalty will not simply punish the criminal but it will serve as threat to others who will do the same. True as it is that the crime calls for justice, but Death Penalty is not the answer. It simply ends the life of the criminal which escapes him from getting tormented in anguish, guilt and regret. I think justice is best served if we shall let the perpetrator be eaten by his conscience and grief in the cold bounds of prison. I think that is more tormenting. That is more humanly. That is more justified. We shouldn’t let ourselves be blinded. Indeed, Mahatma Ghandi is right that An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind. Still, let us pray for Cindy’s blissful confinement in the heavens. We know that God will never let this pass in His judgment. Soon, everything will fall into place. #Grief
