My oldest daughter, Lilah Grace, was born with unilateral cleft - TopicsExpress

My oldest daughter, Lilah Grace, was born with unilateral cleft lip and palate of the hard and soft palate. We found out at our 17 week ultra sound and at first we were devastated. I was born with unilateral cleft lip and palate and I know the hardships that come with it, I couldnt even begin to imagine the hardships of a mother WATCHING all these things. But we trucked through it, I immersed myself in research and resources and had an entire team behind me by the time I delivered. She was a whopping 9lbs 3oz and 23 long. She was born a fighter (God knows, I had to fight her to come out! Haha) We hit the ground running, seeing an orthodontist when she was just days old. We did the NAM which was heart breaking, I had to clean out her mouth every day and re insert the mouth piece, then the tape. The tape was awful, it left rashes all over her face and she could only go an hour or 2 a day with out the tape. Again we trucked through it all, the treatments and the weekly drives to Phoenix and the special and expensive bottles and formulas, we never gave up hope. The surgeries are the most heart breaking part, and sometimes nurses dont make it easy on you. But now she is 3, a big sister, a dancer, brilliant and BEAUTIFUL! I dont view my little girl as anything other than extraordinary and I hope by the time she is my age the world feels the same.
