My oldest son, Richard Humphrey and his girlfriend Melissa are expecting; Im gonna be a Gramma! Please read his post: FRIENDS AND FAMILY! PLEASE READ. As many of you know, my girlfriend Melissa has cancer. We have been lucky to catch it early and are being persistent in the treatment of it. What most of you dont know, is that.... shes pregnant, and I am going to be a DADDY! The cancer and pregnancy situation combined is a complicated one, and something Melissa and I have done alot of research on and consulted many doctors about, including her OB/GYN, a high risk pregnancy doctor, and her oncologist, who is in charge of her treatment. All of the doctors agree that terminating the pregnancy would have no positive impact on the cancer treatment or efficacy of it. It also would not increase the chance of achieving total remission. Also, the treatment will have no negative impact on the baby. She has already had her surgery successfully, and will be starting chemo June 9th. The chemo medicine is not able to pass through the placenta and reach the baby as the molecules of the medicine are too large to get through the placental barrier; keeping the baby safe from any harm. We are late in the first trimester, and any complications with the pregnancy would not be as a result of the cancer treatments. As such, obviously, we have decided to keep this baby and are truly looking forward to having a child together. We are moving in together June 1st, so that we can be together all of the time during this. We love each other very much and, though this time for us right now is very trying, tiring, and stressful, we are confident that we are going to make it through all of this and ultimately have a wonderful family and life together.
