My op ed... before the graphic: The anti Solar Power People cant suppress Solar for long. It will eventually overrun them, possibly catastrophically... if they try and delay the transition for their states/cities they control, politically. Smart economists say phase it in. (Actually, thats the best choice... to avoid suddenly waking up one morning and find everybody else has moved on.) Dumb economists, such as Tea Baggers, say to wait until its inevitable... then theyll risk economic ruin trying to catch up... if not dragging the rest us of along with their twisted plans. Of course... being decades behind in philosophy, and science awareness... they dont realize they could virtually be written off the map within 10 years. They are acting like they can afford to wait another 20 years. I PREDICT there will be very little left of the oil industry as you know it... within 20 years... possibly 10 to 15 years. WHY thats a ticket to bankruptcy for the 1%... to deny the changes: ........ Im sure most of you are aware that on a sunny day in America, the available photonic energy is about 1,000 watts per sq. meter, at noon. Its still quite a lot until sundown... then the available infrared could keep speciality collectors still going. As Solar Cells reach 29% efficiency very soon, (22% commercially now), anybody on a normal day can run a small microwave from about 2 sq meter panels. (600 plus watts). Thats in an area of under 6 x 3. Its enough to run 100 6w LEDS, or a 40 HDTV, Blue Ray, and room full of light, plus charge your smart phone. You could even trickle charge your plug-in Hybrid in the garage... with a panel on the roof. Even if its not sunny... you still receive about 75% daylight if clouded over. So, once past 30% efficient cells... or the cell prices drop further... oil is going to be unable to compete.... IMO. EVs are superior on many levels to a car on petrol. ..... It gets even MORE interesting! Physicists in the Solar Industry discovered COPPER based Solar Cell power. Its not as strong as Silicon, at 15% efficiency... but thats still a LOT... once you consider no CLEAN ROOM is needed to make CuO2 cells. In fact, you can make all the CuO2 you want by burning a copper pot on a gas stove. Omg... is right. 3rd World countries have already picked up on this cheap discovery... and also will no longer be interested in that much oil... after about 10 years. A company in the Bay Area of SF has already begun manufacture of copper based cells... so its already entering the Worlds economy. They started about 5 years ago. Add in the recent steep drop in conventional Silicon cells (now the equipment is paid off)... and oils demise is already on arrival. Add in the garbage to oil enterprises, in the Bay Area... the popularity of hybrids... and imported oil is already on life support... both in America... and parts of Europe. The oil barons just cant react fast enough, if they are in denial, plus hampering progress. My suggestion is to convert to methane based rocket fuel... for the coming space pioneers era opening up shortly. But even thats short lived... as new propulsion is being discovered.
