My opinion?.. Retractable leashes can be nice DEPENDING ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES.. For example, What kind of area do you live in? What kind of dog you have, and their temperament? Do you live in a busy, crowded city? Are they a big dog? Do they like to chase after things? Do they pull on their leash hard?.. If yes, then you probably shouldnt really be using a retractable at all.. At least not until your dog is well trained. But, if you live or walk your dog somewhere that has space, isnt crawling with other dogs and people, or you have a small dog (or big dog) that doesnt pull hard on their leash, doesnt really chase things, and isnt aggressive to other dogs.. You would probably be just fine in using a retractable leash to give your dog a little freedom to poke around the area and smell.. You should ALWAYS have a regular 5ft walking leash as well, though.. Dont bring your pet into public, like Pet smart or the public park for example, with a retractable leash.. Youre just asking for it. But of course its up to the owner to be responsible in knowing whether or not their specific dog is okay to use a retractable.. I agree they arent the ideal everyday leash for every dog, but they have their little perks.. and just like anything else, they HAVE TO BE USED RESPONSIBLY. I dont think theyll be banned. Once again, its up to the humans to be responsible and smart about what theyre doing..
