My opinion about CC, from the BATs wall - Anything that anyone finds remotely good about CC could have easily been written and implemented WITHOUT CC and without the enormous expense of this unfunded mandate and the paltry bribe RttT (Race to the Top) money. What sounded to cash-strapped states like a windfall pales in comparison to the expenses associated with implementation. And standards COULD have been written BY teachers at a state level.. Why did CC come about? The Billionaire deformers needed to prove that bad teachers are causing the Fall of Modern Civilization. (Yes - it is happening worldwide.) When experienced teachers who make more money and have pensions (which makes some people jealous) are gone, then malleable (hey - they grew up with NCLB and RttT!) new lower-paid teachers and TFA will replace them. Then Gates can put all our kids in front of his computer screens watching Pearson curriculum with facilitators, not real, experienced, professional, creative teachers, in front of this class of many dozens of computer-staring students. What a great Business Model that makes a handsome sum for the reformers!!!! The reformers are brilliant at making money! The Real Estate Boom is over! What do they do to get rich now??? But free public education is NOT a business. Our children are not their widgets to train. So, .... if Billionaires can sell us this disease of bad teaching = stupid American kids (when illogically compared to the rest of the world that cherry-picks who they educate or has very different demographics and government), THEN the Billionaires can sell us their Magic Cure. They make money poisoning us *and* saving us. It is a brilliant, evil, and profitable plan. Google Ravitch PISA for several articles about these worldwide scores and how they are misused.
