My parents arrived this evening from Pasadena, TX. They drove 15 hours to get here. My mom doesnt do any of the driving; daddy does it all. Dad is 84 and mom is almost 80. It almost felt like any other time when they come for a visit. Mom always brings so much stuff and insists on unpacking everything as soon as they walk in. However, it became very real that this wasnt their typical visit. They were here for their grandchilds memorial service. I had not thought about how difficult this must be on them as well. Every time mom would say Alexs name she would start crying. I tried to be strong for her, but I did crack a little. This is really happening on Sunday. The flowers are ordered, the programs complete, the music selected, pallbearers chosen. Stop, this cant be happening. It wasnt supposed to happen like this. She always bounced back, she had plans she had made, there were things she wanted to accomplish; a foundation to help run. Im supposed to be prepared for this. We have had a while to realize the direction her health was going. She told us that she wasnt going to be here by her 21st birthday. She missed it by three weeks. Im not ready for Sunday. Im not ready to tell her, See you later because we dont say goodbyes. I need to rewind the past nine months and ask for a do over. I know that I should not be upset because people have told me that I should be thankful that I was at least able to tell my child goodbye. We did tell her many times how much we loved her, did not want her to go, that we werent going to say, Goodbye or See you Later. I know some people dont get that opportunity. That is why you should ALWAYS work problems out before leaving the house. You never know that that person be killed on the way home. Please pray for strength, calmness, peace over the next few days. Pray for all of those traveling in some form or fashion to make it the service. Thank you for the many prayers that you have already sent up on our behalf. They are TRULY appreciated.
