My parents would have been so pleased to see me return to Bhar, to see me sit in the office at Rajgir that I have been given, to see me teach at Nalanda University and to see me healthy and happy in the year of goat when I turn 60. Its too bad its too late (its too bad too late) I tried but you are gone for ever.... ----------------------------------------------------------- And a good news: The Board of Nalanda University met yesterday and decided to reduce the fee from 380,000 rupees to 58,000 rupees. In my conversation with the Vice-chancellor and chancellor I always emphasized the point that promising young students from India and other developing countries in Asia and Africa would feel deterred and daunted at the existing tuition fee set at 380,000 rupees (over six thousand dollars). When I left for JNU in 1976 in pursuit of quality education for which it was famous, I had about 1200 rupees in my pocket. I sold a gold medal which I received in 1972 as a first prize in an inter-university essay competition for 500 rupees and received 720 rupees (sixty Rs. per month of national scholarship, given at the end of the academic session in July each year). This was the capital with which I started my academic journey.. I am happy that the revised fee is affordable for the middle class and I will be able to nurture the dream of young and ambitious graduate students from underprivileged families also
