My paternal grandfather was a British citizen who warred against - TopicsExpress

My paternal grandfather was a British citizen who warred against the British empire which occupied his homeland and for his trouble was put on a British prison ship in Belfast harbor for over two years and only released after nearly a month long hunger strike. Then he was chased from his home to the United States at the end of a gun barrel. I was not raised to ignore the crimes of an empire, any empire. I was not raised to remain silent in the face of oppression and exploitation. I was not raised to participate in the killing and destruction of a people no matter what the justification, and nor was I raised to be content with lies and propaganda intended to placate my objections. I am the grand son of a warrior, a brutal and conflicted man yet when he sinned he accepted his sins as the truth of his life. He killed men in open and in guerrilla warfare but it was NOT in services to an empire, but for the freedom of his family and his homeland, the land of his birth. I will not turn my head from those whom struggle to do the same. #freepalestine
