My physical Pole Star/ True North is the place I write this comment from, Rakino Island in the Hauraki Gulf in NZ . My emotional one is based on finding a way to look young people in the eye, with as clear a conscience as I can muster, as we march inexorably toward the climax of the 6th great extinction, which is well under way as we speak (sic) . I have tried to push back against empire and the dominant paradigm most of my life and whilst having some significant victories namely witnessing the end of South African apartheid and playing a tiny part in making NZ Nuclear free, I / we have failed as we now bare witness to 200 species going extinct every day in the 6th great extinction and the bell now obviously tolling for us humans as well. There is a certain justice in humans going extinct but unlike the Catholic church which incidentally I was born into captivity with, I believe every child that is born is innocent of the crime of ecocide of which they will very soon be punished. On the one hand, I long for the day we have a war against corporate eco-terrorists but sadly I fear we are running out of time for that as well. When collapse comes many of them will end up impaled on pitchforks but it will be a pyrrhic victory in oh so many ways. Another great essay from Nature Bats Last. guymcpherson
