My point is not even about the religious perspective of masquerading in Ebiraland but about our leaders who have made effort to ensure the return of the festivals after it suspension for a while now. Some of these leaders of ours are rich and powerful enough to build factories and industries in ebiraland just like some of them have done outside outside ebiraland.And when approached with the question of why wont they locate such companies in Ebiraland,their responce is that Ebira youths are too violent and will burn down the companies when masqurade periods and fights come. Now these same people are the ones fighting to make sure that eku festivals are made permanent in our land.Isnt this ironical? Doesnt this show that these people meant no well for the people of our land? And most painful is that our people(youths) are not seeing this because we are simply blinded by what I cant even place....all in the name of upholding the culture and tradition of our fore-fathers. What about the culture of local cloth weaving,which had earned some Ebira sons and daugthers great names even beyond the shores of this country?Why not uphold such a lucrative,peaceful and money making culture and plenty of others?Why must it be eku festival with its violent and unprogressive tendencies? Is that the only culture the great Ebiraland can be identified with? Why then is it the only culture our leaders and rich men are intrested in reviving and upholding? Ebira youths,why can we see that our leaders do not mean well for our fatherland by the return of this festival.Of course I pray this years own end in peace and of course it is most likely to end in peace considering its the first time after many years of suspension but what is the gaurantee it will continue that way in susbsequent years looking at the history of these festivals? I realy wish at least the youth can read between the line of this matters and take a position that will gaurantee a better future for our beloved fatherland. Anyway,may the best be our lot but as they say,heaven helps those who help themselves
