My poor Uncle. We took him to the hospital a week ago Sunday. His o2 levels dropped so his assisted living home said he really needed to go to the ER. He spent 9 days in Summit, 4 of which were only because he had to wait to go to a rehab center- even though the hospital said he was released to go back to his assisted living. Apparently someone at Summits physical therapy office said he could only walk75 feet and the assisted living facility has a rule that residents have to be able to walk 300 minimum. So 4 days without physical therapy and sitting in the hospital just fine. He gets into rehab last night, hes fine- alert- happy. This morning I go to see him and hes lethargic, unresponsive...they tell me hes been up all night and his blood sugar was at 500 this morning. So now hes back at Summit ER. And all his tests are fine. What a huge mess. Why cant they just have had a doc look at him at McKendree????? Why couldnt they have just figured out hes just plain exhausted. Poor man is screaming because theyre putting a catheter in him. The health care system sucks. And why would a facility just ship someone out to an ER when theyre supposed to be the ones in charge of his....well, HEALTH!!!!! Im so frustrated and upset right now with it all. This has been my whole week- fighting with nurses and insurance and trying to get someone to tell me what the hells going on. I am trying to stay in gratitude for the fact that I am able to be there for him and be his advocate but more times than not this week I have broken down, feeling helpless to get him just what he needs- not what the insurance companies dictate. Its beyond sad. Ok and Ill be grateful I had my flu shot this year as Ive spent countless hours at this hospital the last 10 days. #doneventing #healthcarenightmares #thisismessedup #searchingforgratitude
