My previous post is an offshoot of a recent strategic engagement with neighbourhood youth leaders in Lagos East senatorial district, in a bid to know the challenges confronting them. Over the weekend, an empowerment programme was held for those in Kosofe (shown earlier) and Somolu that had skills in various vocations but lacked the wherewithal to set up businesses for themselves. This gesture is meant to further sustain the peace and tranquility enjoyed by the residents in the constituency. Interestingly, some of these people are also vanguards of peace in most of our communities. Our empowerment programmes are also part of a holistic strategy to maintain peace in all the LGAs and LCDAs. In the words of one of the beneficiaries, Aliu Balogun (also known as Champion), It has been a while that anybody considered us for empowerment. People look at us as touts who have nothing to offer society even if empowered. This is the only elected representative that cares to know our plight and challenges, I hope to make good use of these tools and become an employer of labour soon. Indeed, I am humbled and encouraged by Aliu’s comments. A second sojourn in the senate would prove even better for all of us. As always, I count on your support. Have a great week.
