My public service announcement on renting a vehicle in Cozumel. - TopicsExpress

My public service announcement on renting a vehicle in Cozumel. It is a criminal offense to get in a traffic accident in Mexico. Both parties are going to the police station, statements are taken, and you will go before the Magistrate to determine any fines/damage which must be paid before you are released. The taxi union in Cozumel is a very powerful influential organization. Plus they know you are on a time deadline. Make sure you get FULL coverage with ZERO deductible. It is only about a $4 difference from having a $600 deductible. Best $4 I have ever spent as it kept me from having to scounge up $600. I got out of the police station at 4:20pm. The last tender to the ship was at 4:30pm. I have to go from downtown to the south most pier. I barely made it. As far as the accident, I was making a left turn and a taxi decided to pass me as I made the turn. She t-boned us spinning us out. It shoved the door 8 inches into the drivers compartment. She tried to tell the police I made a U-turn in front of her. You can see by the skid marks I pulled her front end to the left showing I was going to the left. Plus had I made a u-turn, I would have hit her head on. I got fined $25 for failure to yield which is the same law we have in the US. I told the social host onboard the Holiday, we did the new Carnival shore excursion. She said we did not have any. I showed her the photos and told her it was the Cozumel Demolition Derby Excursion. For $83, you get to wreck a new rental car and get a free two hour tour of the police station.
