My ranking of the few songs to sit at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 - TopicsExpress

My ranking of the few songs to sit at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014, put into context by being embedded in the rankings of songs to have gone #1 in 2013 (by the way, my admiration of the way a lot of these found their way into pop culture made these hard as hell to rank). --- Lorde: Royals Miley Cyrus: Wrecking Ball 1. Pharrell Williams: Happy You cant deny that melody. And neither can every idiot you see smiling, wearing headphones, and dancing like a ninny as they walk about town to a song only they can hear. Baauer: Harlem Shake Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (ft. Ray Dalton): Cant Hold Us Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (ft. Wanz): Thrift Shop Robin Thicke (ft. Pharrell & T.I.): Blurred Lines Bruno Mars: Locked Out of Heaven Bruno Mars: When I Was Your Man P!nk (ft. Nate Reuss): Just Give Me a Reason 2. Eminem (ft. Rihanna): The Monster Another rising ember created by the unexpected chemistry between Em and Ri, this is a fun song that wont last, lacking either the depth or cultural effect to hang with the above entries. 3. Pitbull (ft. Ke$ha): Timber The chorus makes it sound like the ultimate realization of club-folk that Wake Me Up promised us, but then theres Pitbull, the main reason this floats under the above entry. 4. Katy Perry (ft. Juicy J): Dark Horse Not quite as anemic as PRISMSs debut single, oddly enough executed with more grace thanks to Juicy J, but this song rides on an atmosphere, not the enthusiasm that keeps other songs here afloat. Katy Perry: Roar --- By the way, the top five has been the exact same and in the exact same order (Happy, All of Me, Dark Horse, Talk Dirty, Let It Go) for four weeks running. The charts have been pretty static this year. The only songs to hit #2 that didnt hit #1 are OneRepublics Counting Stars, Beyoncés Drunk in Love (ft. Jay Z), and John Legends All of Me.
