My rant for today: Pro powerlifters... Now-a-days this term - TopicsExpress

My rant for today: Pro powerlifters... Now-a-days this term gets thrown around quite frequently and very loosely. I am not sure how these people get this self inflated mental image, but its getting out of hand. Lets be honest for just a minute. Almost No One gets paid to just be a powerlifters. At least not here in the US. Just because you won some cash at a competition that doesnt make you a Pro. Lets think of it in terms of other professional sports. Do you make a salary as a pro powerlifter? Probably not. There are a few, and I mean A Few, who actually receive a monetary compensation for their training and/or performances. But for the most part, everyone who competes in powerlifting is an amateur. I myself included. I am by no means a professional. I may compete with or against professionals, but that does not make me a professional. Now there are some fortunate individuals who are sponsored by various companies and they do receive a monthly salary plus whatever the company wants to give them. I would probably consider them to have a Pro status. There are also many people who are sponsored, but dont even compete. So what does that make them? A professional exerciser? Lets continue with our honesty for bit longer... Powerlifting will probably never be on the same level as Bodybuilding, Strongman, or dare I say CrossFit. It is not as appealing to a crowd of people. You see the actual competition. You can not tell who is battling for first or second place. The battle takes place on a score sheet. The crowd cant just walk into a competition randomly and right a way see who is winning. There is TOO much behind the scenes stuff going on with powerlifting. End of rant because I am tired of typing and would much rather eat my lunch...
