My readers know that many of my stories feature trees with distinctive spirit and character. The truth is, when I was growing up I considered the trees friends -- and I still do! Many of my favorite childhood memories are times with trees. The gnarled old apple trees on my parents hilltop in New England, the ancient ponderosa pine by the creek on our ranch in Colorado, and the aspen trees where I strung my first hammock and camped many nights under the Rocky Mountain stars -- all these became friends. Maybe thats why so many of my stories feature trees who do, in fact, have an enchanting story to tell... and wisdom to impart if we will take the time to listen.
