My research for information on Port Alfred and the villages that make up this settler region, is boundless in that the although I am NOT an expert, to wit I rely on all the marvellous historians to guide me. One fact is clear, and that is, IF I cannot find documented proof of the tales-of-old all I am doing is passing on gossip. No matter how many books I have read, all opinions vary. Port Alfred was an extremely important cog in the region in every which way. A failed harbour, which dominated industry, many came here with little money, made good, stayed or moved on. :D Vagabonds abounded! I guess that is no different anywhere, and 194 years later, there are times when I wish the men of commerce had been more educated, more experienced, as the history relied on them. However, I adore the place, and will continue to scratch out all that I can to pass on. :) err and hopefully not bore than pants off everyone.
