My response to an article posted about how testing in schools is wrong: This is only addressing the tip of the iceberg. There is no right way to grow up, we have to create our own world. Public schools, private schools, unschooling, homeschooling, and everything else all have their difficulties. I think an ecosystem depending on each kid and the parent(s) talents, inclinations, and time, is the best. People are resilient and turn out ok. But that doesnt mean that most things that happen in school are okay. Theyre not. If you care about radical and also totally practical philosophies on schooling, get started, look up Sir Ken Robinson, Steiner, Montessori (the person, not the current schooling incarnation), Christopherus, Oak Medow, Unschooling, The Teenage Liberation Handbook, Not Back to School Camp, Froebel, John Dewey, Ivan Illich, Eleanor Duckworth, John Holt, Reggio Emilia, The Continuum Concept, John Taylor Gatto, the Maker Movement, and thats just to get started. Gotta take this shit seriously. I taught a class on the topic at MIT radlearning.org Education is life, in that it is how we spend 1/5 of our productive life-hours, and in that its rituals, in a medium is the message sense, form our understanding of ourselves and our society. At this point education style becomes philosophy, human expression, freedom, and life itself. Dont accept what is handed to you. Life is not multiple choice. Lets create our own world.
