My review on Siddhartha (Kannada film) Director Prakash Jayaram - TopicsExpress

My review on Siddhartha (Kannada film) Director Prakash Jayaram is known for his neat, youthful and no-nonsense films. With Siddhartha he proves it again that he can give us a simple yet neatly made entertaining film. This time he launches his cousin Vinay Rajkumar as a lead/debut hero and Vinay too has done a decent job. The best part of this movie is it is a very simple plot but no gimmicks, straight forward, neat narration keeps you entertained. Its a complete family entertainer and a movie which today’s youth can relate to and enjoy. Brief about the plot : Siddhartha (Vinay Rajkumar) is a boy who wants to enjoy his life with friends. He loves his dad and they both are more of good friends than just a dad-son. There are no secrets in his life and he enjoys his weekends partying with friends. Then enters Khushi (Apoorva) in his life and he falls in love with her. His straight forward nature is liked by Khushi and her parents and they decide to get engaged. They are so much in love that they forget the world around them, Siddhartha fails to devote time to his friends and they too miss his company and feel lost as they also are a rock band. Siddhartha feels that so many good things are happening to him so fast and feels that he needs a break before he gets engaged to Khushi. Though Khushi doesn’t like this idea she lets him go on a break. What happens next? Will Khushi bring in a lot of Khushi (happiness) after the break too? Will this break be a good break for Siddhartha or will his relationship with Khushi break? Vinay Rajkumar has given a neat and decent performance. He is good at dance and fights. There is definitely a lot of scope for improvement in his acting/mannerisms/expressions and dialog delivery but he shows some promise for sure. I feel he needs to bring in more emotions in the songs as in few places the lip-sync was missing. Apoorva as the heroine looks cute and a well-known face in hindi teleserials. She too gives a decent performance but in few places too much make-up on her makes her look too gordy and the short tops which show her belly look a little too ugly as her curves are too visible ;) The support cast Achyutha Kumar, Aashish Vidyarthi, Ashwini as parents do a good job. Naina, Nikki Galrani, Alok, Abhay Surya, Jeevan as Siddhartha’s friends add the much needed support. I still feel that the friends roles could’ve been given a little more importance/length. Music by V Harikrishna suits the mood of the film and the back ground score by Stephen is the highlight of the film. He has done a good job. Cinematography is good and looks fresh, stunts are good. Editing could’ve been better. Few flaws/weak links: 1.Overall making of the film could’ve been much richer considering the banner. 2.The drinking scenes or too many shots of showing beer cans/pub culture might not go well with the entire fan-base of Rajkumar’s family, especially the senior ones. Suits the mood of the film but might be a bit too bold is what I felt. 3.The climax happens so quickly that you feel it could’ve been a bit more effective. 4.Overall length of the film could’ve been trimmed by 10 minutes. My rating : 3.5/5.
