My rock, the first man I loved and loved me back unconditionally, - TopicsExpress

My rock, the first man I loved and loved me back unconditionally, my dad, Bob Jackson, was diagnosed with ALS in November, 2013. Im sure this comes as a surprise to many as I have not shared this sad news with very many people. This is a 100% fatal disease for which there is no known cure at this time. As you can imagine, my family and I have been digesting this and trying to accept our new normal. Obviously, my sweet dad has struggled the most with this devastating diagnosis. Often referred to as Lou Gehrigs Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. I, along with my family will be fundraising and walking for a cure in September, 2014. If you are lead to walk with our team and/or donate, please use the link below! Thank you in advance for supporting my dad and our familys journey with this heartbreaking disease. web.alsa.org/site/TR/Walks/Georgia?px=4147777&pg=personal&fr_id=10136
