My saga with Cablevision-new post because this info really deserves to be known! First of all, just to get this out of the way, do your speed tests here: speedtest.cablevision.qc.ca/en/index.html This goes directly to Cablevision and is the most accurate test that you can get. Now, there was a problem a few days ago where the Internet in Thorne wouldnt work in the mornings and would go back up a bit at night. This is fixed and was apparently due to them installing new software and not having it balanced properly. That specific issue is the Thorne-wide problem that they acknowledged. Nothing else. Now, after telling me that my modem was fine like 50x and the tech confirming it, my modem is suddenly the problem. I said OK, I will buy this new modem if its FINALLY going to solve my issues. My old modem is an Arris CM900 and this new one is an Arris CM820. Now heres the fun part of how tricky Cablevision is! I had BOUGHT my model in 2013 because the location option seemed stupid to me at 10$ a month. It meant that my modem would of been paid for within 7 months and that Id end up giving them a lot more money. So today, when my modem was now the problem, I said bill me the 70 some odd dollars and lets get the show on the road. But no. This is now impossible. They no longer allow us to buy modems! You read that right, there is NO option to buy the modem. And their coup de grace comes in next, making it pointless to buy another modem somewhere else. The price for the Internet includes the 10$ location fee for your modem! They do not show it on your bill in a precise way such as Internet cost you this much+ 10$ modem and they do not have to because they make it all as one big package! Nobody ever received this info btw. I am going to explain below with the prices for those who may have a hard time understanding: 10 Mbps is 63.95 20 Mbps is 71.95 30 mbps is 84.95 100 mbps is 154.95 There is an Astrix 1 showing that modem price is included. This is the exact definition of their Astrix: Free cable modem included. Price is subject to change without notice. Taxes extra. Now please not that these prices quoted above are without taxes or any package deals, etc. These are the Internet prices as they are. Well theres some inaccuracies in there. Lets get started! ONLY the 10mbps and 20 mbps packages have gone up by 10$ extra to include the modem for free aka included in the price. So if you bought your modem, your 10mbps Internet is 53.95 instead of 63.95. The 30 and 100 mbps have not gone up by 10$ and they state that the modems 10$ fee is not added because the packages are already expensive. Now if youre like me, you bought your modem and paid 70+ dollars for it and you are told that just a few months later, this took effect. So I gave them 70+ dollars for a modem and since I pay for the 30mbps, they claim that the pricing of this hasnt gone up so I wasnt really charged 10$ extra per month/it was just bad timing that I paid 70$ pretty much right before they changed all of this without sending us a letter or making it clear on their website. Because as I said, the website claims that the 10$ fee is included in every single package with this quote: Free cable modem included. Price is subject to change without notice. Taxes extra They do not make the exception for the 100 mpbs or the 30 mbps known. Also, they never told anyone that should the modem you BOUGHT (before they stopped selling them) should no longer work, you have no other option but to rent your modem, as its now included in your Internet fee. So is any of this illegal? No. Is it moral? Nope. Its all about them making more money. So if you bought your modem and are on the 10 or 20 mbps and your modem breaks, expect to see a rise of 10$ monthly for your Internet. PS: Please do not call and yell at the employees. It is NOT their fault. They are not the decision makers and they understood my frustration today when all of this was revealed. Still, dont expect 70$ back for your modem!
