My second legislative priority will be to establish a billing code for First Responders/Ambulance Service providers. Our volunteer First Responders are fully trained to provide the critical life saving care until transport to a hospital. This care has been the difference in life and death for many Kentuckians! At a recent Warren County Fire Chief’s Meeting, I was advised that First Responder calls last year amounted to 72% of the departments runs. Our current health insurance billing system does not recognize this critical support and does not allow local billing. Our Volunteer Fire Departments and Ambulance Services are operated as a non-profit organization, with local board members setting the costs of service to help defray expenses and provide funds for much needed equipment. We need statewide recognition of the service these men and women provide and a code to allow for billing for these life-saving responses! I hope my sharing my priorities doesnt offend my friends too much. I will only put one a day on from now on (in the afternoon). It is a great way to get the word out there--especially if you share.
