My senior year in high school I was called to the main office. Penn State recruiter (football) wanted to see me. It was George Welsh an assistant later Head Coach of navy then UVA. I walked in he looked at me and said,Your not as big as your brother. I said,No one as as big as my brother 66 295 a Penn State sophomore. And that was that! 26 years later I walked in Coach Welshs football office at UVA. I said,Coach Im Dave Frederick uncle of Mike Frederick (freshman) and brother of Tom and Im not as big as either one now or then. Game day morning continental breakfast for team relatives UVA was hosting Florida State my brother introduced me to Coach Welshs brother who said,Are you Dave Frederick the sportswriter from Lewes? The guy was quite impressed. He told me he had a place in Breezewood across from the mayors (Stengo) gas station. I said,would you happen to be the dad of Mark Welsh who does triathlons? and he said,yes thats my son. My brother said, there you go again. You go someplace and you always know more people than me. yes but Ill never be as big.
