My sister, Robin Halpin Dronne, forwarded this from someone, and I signed--I always do--but Im wishing I hadnt read it. Because because she has this condition. Obviously I know this, because shes had brain surgery--which actually made things worse--but I found out more in this petition than shes ever shared; and I guess ignorance was bliss. Its easy to push it out of your mind, since shes young (almost young enough to be my daughter), looks even younger than she is, and is skinny, beautiful and always coiffed. Whenever you ask how shes feeling, she always says okay. Its easier to think she has good luck finding parking spots, than to remember why we never have to drive around the lot in her car. I took her son to a museum once, and he couldnt understand why I wasnt parking on the grass in front of the museum the way his mom did. I was about to argue, then realized that she had a handicapped sticker. This wasnt something I could explain to a five year old, I just said it was okay, we could walk. But as we did, I was thinking how lucky I was to be middle aged, overweight, and schlepping from the back of the parking lot.
