My sister-in-law called me at work and told me my horses were out. - TopicsExpress

My sister-in-law called me at work and told me my horses were out. A large dead tree had fallen on the fence and wiped out about forty feet of the fence, popping two strands of barbed wire and smashing the rest under the fallen trunk. Our equine version of Houdini is Hoss, our way-too-smart halflinger. He figured out an escape route pronto. Fortunately there was someone at work to cover for me (thanks John!), and I headed home to chase horses and fix fence. My father-in-law, Bill, sister-in-law, Becky, and my friend Carla Manuel had the horses in and were holding them at bay when I got there. Hoss is the herd ring-leader. He was trying to lead the whole herd back through the opening. I eventually had to take the three most determined equines to another lot so I could work unsolicited (without a horse breathing down my neck and taking gloves and tools out of my pocket). 2 hours later the fence had a good temporary fix. When Bill gets home Ill send him to drive a couple more posts to strengthen it and tighten the splices. Im hot and tired and mad at my horses. Sometimes country life is hard!
