My sister is 19 years younger than I am, so I was living at home, - TopicsExpress

My sister is 19 years younger than I am, so I was living at home, going to college, when Mom was expecting her. Of course, in those days, you didnt want to know in advance whether it was a boy or girl, so there was still a surprise when the news came from the hospital... One cold January morning, I woke up to find the house empty, a brief note scribbled on the notepad by the phone: Were At The Hospital! So I got dressed and headed over to Resurrection Hospital to get the news, and as it happened, just as I walked into the lobby, my Dad was exiting the elevator as well, heading toward me... I didnt want to yell across the lobby, but I wanted to get the question out there, so I raised my hands, palms upward, in the universal code of asking the question Well? Whats the news? And as soon as he saw me, on that nice smooth terrazzo floor, my dad (always wearing the kind of leather-soled shoes that you can tap in, even without cleats), stopped, smiled, and broke into a tap dance, singing Maurice Chevaliers hit song.... So, today being Maurice Chevaliers birthday (born on this day in 1888), heres a link to his performance from Gigi. Whenever I think of this song, I remember my folks, and the way that Dad gave me the news that Mary Di Leo Poole had been born: youtube/watch?v=CRnbtRPC6v4
