My sister recently sent me some interesting items that she had saved for years. Among them was what appears to be the first Burleson PTA Yearbook for the 1961-62 school year. According to the information within, Mom was the President of the newly founded local chapter of the Parent/Teachers Association. Assuming all is correct, she may have been the first President of the local organization, which preceded her becoming the first female elected official in the Burleson area and the first female Burleson Independent School District Trustee. We pay little attention to gender these days during elections at the local level, but in 1963, things were quite different. Thanks, Sis for sharing!
