My sisters and I lost both our parents a year apart in this month - TopicsExpress

My sisters and I lost both our parents a year apart in this month of November. I cannot help but want to shaare this memory of a story from my childhood years. Being a girl of ten or eleven years in age, I had finally been given a pair of black patent leather pump heeled shoes, which I had wanted for a long time. Each article bought for me was so appreciated because we were so poor, and my dad worked eighteen to twenty hours a week. Neither a drinker nor smoker, and excellent eating habits. He kind of blazed his own trails in this world, and sometimes out of this world, as well. Both parents taught me forgiveness until it was coming out of our ears. And lots more than that!!!! Before I continue with the shoe story, which was not a spur of the moment idea, but rather a very well done instrument in the progressive movement towards peace to be used. At the same time, my Dad had made me a pair of skis at Eva and Frank Cummings and Evelyn and James Stevens shipyard where he worked. The skis were Blue and Black leather strappings , one of which I lost in the mill pond in Linekin Bay. The other was a pair of stilts, he made because when he was a child, his dad(Martin Priest Dodge) , made some for him. Last, the shoes. My mom used to hide them up the stairs half-way--------------------------- and she said she had given them to Santa Claus to keep care of them for me. I pleaded a lot to play dress up in them . She said no. They were for best. Since Santa kept them in the chimney, Ithought, because she knocked on it to see if he could give them to her, and I believed it, well I am glad the house did not burn until later, by a chimney fire. Anyways, this is today, and Happy Holidays to All. Joyce Dodge
