My son, Jack and I visited Zeytuna this afternoon at Harborview. We went with their teachers: Tina and Zeinab. She had been upgraded at this point to stable condition and moved out of the ICU into her own room (yay!). Jack and Zeytuna are in the same 2nd grade class at Kimball Elementary. We got to meet and talk to Zeytunas father which was really amazing. What a sweet, caring, amazing father. When we arrived, Zeytuna was sleeping. Through Zeinab, as interpreter, we were able to learn a little bit in talking with her father. She broke her neck, clavicle, leg and hip all on the right side. She has a feeding tube and is not talking but is able to respond to questions of how many fingers and holding up the right amount. WHile we were there, she woke up and was agitated by the feeding tube. The doctor came by to check it and he commented that today was the first day he noticed that Zeytuna was tracking really well. When Jack came into the room to give her his stuffed animal gift, she looked at him and smiled - she seemed to be really happy to see a familiar face. She was able to smile at all of us and track our faces. At this point she will be transferred to Childrens Hospital for ongoing medical and physical therapy care in the next couple of days. Also, apparently the person who hit and run Zeytuna is in police custody this week, but I dont have too much information yet. I do know that the police officers who responded at the scene have come back three times to visit Zeytuna, just to see how she is doing.
