My son has been learning the countries and capitals of the world, just in case Jay Leno stops him on the street someday. He has already learned all the names of the countries and capitals of Europe, Asia, Africa, Central and South America, Oceania, and the Caribbean. He has even learned the names of the small islands and their capitals in the Lesser Antilles. I wonder how many Americans know, for example, the capital of the island Saint Lucia. Also, some people may have heard of the island Aruba, but how many know its capital is Oranjestad? Next, we will probably study the states of Mexico. There are 31 of them, not including the Federal District. Believe it or not, it will probably take my son only about 20 or 30 minutes to memorize all 31 states and their capitals. He may not remember them all three months from now, but, at least, he will be familiar with them.
