My son recently wrote a story (according the the conventions of literary fiction mapped out by his teacher) that seemed so professional and startlingly alive to me that I had to ask How did you DO that? I mean, you dont really read that much on your own? Oh thats because you always read to me, and you really liked it. Every night, you know? Harry Potter, Fable Haven, Percy Jackson, all those books. I listened to them and they went inside. I dont have to read them, I know them by heart.
