My son said some very hurtful words this evening while he was perturbed at me and feeling underprivileged. He said, Screw my life! Little does he realize, fifteen years ago today, his daddy and I sat at Womens and Childrens hospital watching the horrible Columbine tragedy on TV. Why were we at the hospital? We were there fighting for his life for TEN days. He was six weeks old, and had RSV, ear infection, bacterial pneumonia, and viral pneumonia. His doctor said that babies at six weeks do not survive bacterial pneumonia, but he did. Thank you God! We had to assist in holding down our six week old while he had a new IV put in every day (the top of his head, the bottom of his foot, the back of his hand, etc, etc, etc). It was a horrible ordeal for a parent to have to go through. We slept in the hospital room the whole time...no Ronald McDonald house for us. We prayed and begged the Lord to help us through. Other people prayed, and Yes HE heard! Finally, TEN DAYS into it, we brought him home with us. It was far from over...the first year was touch and go. The first three years were rough. But it was all worth it.....every last minute.....and NEVER DID WE SAY OR THINK SUCH WORDS. We are thankful everyday to have a bright and vibrant son like you, Jacob!!!!
