My son started my day off by phoning me and wishing me a Happy - TopicsExpress

My son started my day off by phoning me and wishing me a Happy Veterans Day (Air Force 1966-70). Then my buddy Wendell called me and said I was the only veteran he knew, and he wanted to thank me for my service and wish me a great day. Reeling from these two generous celebrations, I walked outside and saw a fellow, about my age, people-watching from his wheelchair. I asked if he was a veteran. He nodded quickly. I told him Id just had two calls thanking me for my service and it made me feel good, so I thanked him for his service and we shook hands. I continued on toward my car, saw another likely prospect, propped up against a shopping cart full of belongings, asked him, he gently answered, No. I didnt want to be rude to someone, or dismissive because he didnt serve. Really? You look like youre in the age group when many of us did that. Im 53. I was too young for Vietnam, and he shrugged his shoulders. You didnt miss anything. You have a good day. I continued on to my car.
